Billie Eilish’s debut album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” became one of the most popular albums of 2019 and continues to keep a spot in the Billboard 200. It contains 14 tracks produced by her brother FINNEAS and written by Billie Eilish.
The album starts with her announcing to the listener that she is removing her Invisalign and introducing the album. No further explanation needed because… that’s just it. The 2nd track, Bad Guy, stayed at No.2 in the Billboard charts until it finally dethroned Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” from it’s 19-week long No.1 spot. This song was everywhere, there was no escaping the bass-heavy tune that remain in everyone’s playlist. It wasn’t my favorite at first, but this song always found its way back into my head and slowly became one of my most played songs. The 3rd track, Xanny, has a very addictive base that makes listening to this song with earbuds feel so heavenly. Its slow-paced beat and Billie’s soft vocals give the listener an understanding on the subject the song is about. Track 4, You Should See Me in A Crown, a song inspired by a line from the television show Sherlock. Probably the first song I’ve ever heard from her, not really my favorite, but the beat and lyrics give me this sense of power. I can’t be alone here.
Track 5, All the Good Girls Go To Hell, is probably one of my favorite songs off the album. The beat is addictive and has me reaching for the replay button. Track 6, Wish You Were Gay, is a great song with a problematic title. The lyrics are relatable, except for the fact that she wished he was gay because then it would make the one-sided love less painful. Track 7, When the Party’s Over, it’s great. That’s honestly all I have to say. Track 8, 8, it includes some unique vocal mixing. The heart-breaking lyrics makes you question if she’s okay. However, she admits she wrote that from the person’s perspective.
Track nine, My Strange Addiction, my favorite f-ing song. It’s not because FINNEAS sampled The Office, and I’ll continue to deny that. It honestly stayed in my head the longest. Track 10, Bury A Friend, a very eerie song with an even more terrifying title to top it off. I have nothing bad to say about it because that’s exactly what she wanted, a perspective of the monster under your bed. Track 11, ilomilo, the lyrics are about losing the person you love and trying to find them again. Track 12, Listen Before I Go, is centered around suicide. Someone wanting the other person to love them or else they’ll end their life. The song tells a story on its own and reminds you of the pain received from having your heart broken. Track 13, I Love You, a ballad that made me feel like I was in movie. Her soft voice accompanied by an acoustic guitar makes you fall in love with the song itself. The final track, Goodbye, a perfect ending to the album, making it end smoothly. Completing it.
This album was way better than I expected it to be. Before listening to it I believed it was just over hyped, but it’s incredible. All the songs run smoothly from start to finish. FINNEAS and Billie are the tag team that will continue to release some amazing songs and topping the charts.
